On Tuesday, year 6 pupils at the school became explorers, and were transported to the Arctic through dance, drama and lots of activities to learn about the region and how wildlife and the people of the Arctic are affected by climate change.

The day was delivered by Emma Espley and Sarah Shaw, and several WWW materials were used throughout the day including our Arctic Map puzzle and image captions. The pupils had a fantastic day, and after lunch Digby Rawlins – WWW volunteer and Arctic explorer – spoke to the children about his recent trip sailing to and exploring Greenland.

Melanie Hirst, Year 6 teacher, said:

“Thank you so much for arranging Digby to come and talk to the children at Abbey Park Middle School. We have a challenging cohort of children who come from some difficult backgrounds. The positive impact on having someone like Digby come and talk to them about what Wicked Weather Watch are doing and the expedition up to Greenland is enormous.”
