As ice in the Arctic Ocean continues to melt at a rapid rate due to global warming, the waters are opening up and becoming more and more accessible.

It was feared that this would lead to exploitation of the regions resources, including large-scale fishing, but in a new deal, major fishing nations agreed to suspend commercial fishing in the Arctic – before it has even begun!

The deal, which is fantastic news for the region, will last for 16 years while research is carried out into the marine ecosystems.
