After a longer wait than expected, the crew of the Polar Ocean Challenge left Murmansk, Russia today to start the second leg of their journey around the Arctic Ocean.

They’ve faced days of uncertainty, looking at ice chart after ice chart, trying to decide the best time to leave Murmansk and try and make it through the Northeast Passage, which is currently still frozen over in part.

They still face a lot of uncertainty – there is no guarantee that the ice will have melted by the time they reach it, and so they crew have made sure to stock up on as much fresh food as possible before leaving!
